SAMPSON SHAKE THE FIRE

The opening to Sampson’s debut single ‘Shake The Fire’ will send shivers down your spine. Starting with just her gorgeous vocal accompanied by a closely mic-ed guitar, it feels similar to The XX and London Grammer’s most intimate tracks, before descending into a full-blown chorus of heavy synths and electronica. ‘Shake The Fire’ was inspired by the loss of her Grandad, of which Sampson says: “Feeling grief was definitely a time when I came to understand mortality as more than just a word people use. I wrote 'Shake The Fire' while realising that we never really have full control of anything, especially not time.” If this track is anything to go by, it seems as though Sampson is in full control of her music career, and is scheduled to release her debut album later this year. Watch this space – we can’t wait to see where Sampson will take us next. -HM
